MONAGAS  STATE CAMPS

Camp: Hacienda Campo Claro
* Location 

In the village of Campo Claro, near Caripe.

* How to get there 

By air or land to Maturín, Carúpano o Cumaná. Then by road following
the via to Caripe.

* Characteristics 

Country atmosphere in a beautiful verdant area near Cueva del Guácharo
national park . It is a hacienda of some 70 ha. where coffee and oranges are
cultivated and cattle are raised on a small scale. The climate is cool,
pleasant, and one can participate in activities on the farm, riding horses,
excursions to nearby mountains. Due to its location, it offers the beauty of
the park where, and without a doubt, the most important thing is to visit
Guácharo Cave. 

* Recomendations 

Clothing appropriate for the climate and area, comfortable shoes, sweater or
jacket for visits to the cave, hat or cap, camera, binoculars, etc.

* Facilities 

Simple and country stone cabins, 4 quadruples and 3 for 6 people, with
private bathroom, air conditioning, kitchen, refrigerator, outdoor barbecue,
and some utensils. It also has 12 double bedrooms with private bathroom.
Large green areas, cafeteria service and sale of products made in the ranch,
like jellies, milk and cheese.


Hacienda Ecoturística la Cuchilla
* Location 

Caripe, sector El Guácharo.

* How to get there 

By air or land to Maturín, Carúpano o Cumaná. Then by road following
the via to Caripe.

* Characteristics 

This is a fertile, privileged area, with pleasant climate, known as the
Garden of the East. The camp is located in a tropical forest with abundant
coffee cultivation and impressive natural landscapes. It is some 4 km from
the world-famous geological formation known as the Guácharo Cave, one of
the most important scientific and tourist attractions of the region, baptized
with the name Alejandro de Humboldt natural 
monument. In this location, it is an ideal place for mountain tourism, with
vegetation of a humid tropical forest, with trees 30-40 m. (more than
90-120 ft.), cold night temperatures can reach 12° C, etc. When you are
there, don't miss the spectacle of the departure of the guácharos form the
cave around dusk.

* Recomendations 

Clothing appropriate for the climate and area, comfortable shoes, sweater or
jacket for visits to the cave, hat or cap, camera, binoculars, etc.

* Facilities 

It has 4 country-style cabins for 3-4 people which have stove, refrigerator,
and cooking utensils; 1 cabin with 2 rooms, dining room, kitchen and
bathroom; and 4 rooms, cabin-style, with a capacity for 4 people. All with
private bathroom and hot water. It has a restaurant and areas for relaxation
and recreation, mini volleyball-basketball courts and a children¹s park.
Guests are offered a Venezuelan-style breakfast and a rich variety of jams,
jellies, and homemade fruit liqueurs.


Camp: La Tigra
* Location 
Near Caicara de Maturín, some 40 km. northeast of Maturín.

* How to get there 

By air or land to Maturín. Then following the road to Caicara.

* Characteristics 

The feline named camp is located in a rich green and extensive farming
area, with pasture and pineapple all year long, as weel as other different
seasonal crops of corn, sorghum, soy, etc. It has a large production of milk,
cheese, and fattened cattle. The camp is frequently used for executive
meetings, weddings, birthday parties, etc. They organize excursions on
horseback, to nearby rivers, to Guácharo Cave national park (see page 231),
located some 2 hours from there, etc. The region is rich in everything, even
petroleum, and it is common to see cattle grazing next to oil wells. Price
includes welcome cocktail, lodging, all meals, beverages with meals,
excursions on horseback, agrotours, and entertaining games.

repellent, hat or cap, camera, binoculars, etc.

* Facilities 

Small and simple, it has 2 suites with air conditioning and private
bathroom with hot water, 6 duplex with air conditioning and separate
bathrooms, and 2 rooms with 2 single beds, fan, and separate bathrooms.
Capacity for 20 people. Swimming pool, bar, area for bolas criollas,
badminton, table games, TV room, telephone and fax, etc. All in a clean
and well-maintained atmosphere, surrounded by pretty gardens, where the
dedication of its owners can be noted.


Camp: Pueblo Pequeño
* Location 
In Caripe, 10 km. from Guácharo Cave.

* How to get there 

By air or land to Maturín, Carúpano o Cumaná. Then by road following
the road to Caripe.

* Characteristics 

This is a youth camp for groups of campers ranging from 75 to 150 per
season, aged between 8 and 16 years old. The camp focuses on self esteem,
working in groups, knowledge about and respect for natural resources, all in
a pleasant environment and with good attention. Guests live an experience
integrated with nature, work in the country side, the contemplation of
nature, and develop a spirit of cooperation. For its privileged geographic
location and nearness to Guácharo Cave national park, it has a series of
unique educational attractions. Price includes lodging, breakfast, lunch,
dinner, snacks, courses, guides, materials for the activities, medical visits,
transportation for special activities.

* Recomendations 

Clothing appropriate for the climate and region, comfortable shoes, sweater
or jacket for visits to the cave, hat or cap, camera, binoculars, etc. Campers
must bring their own bed linens and towels.

* Facilities 

Capacity for up to 100 people in rooms with 6 bounks. Communal
bathrooms with hot water, refectory, pool, tasca-restaurant, party salon,
gym, sportsfields, guided activities, conferences, trips and varied courses. It
also has cabins with private bathroom, hot water, TV, telephone, etc.


Camp: Villa Manantial
* Location 

Santa Bárbara Sector, at the south of the state, some 60 km. from Maturín.

* How to get there 

By air or land to Maturín or Puerto Ordaz. Then by road to Temblador.

* Characteristics 

This region corresponds to the rich, fertile eastern plains of the country,
with a great deal of agriculture and farming. The hacienda is located in a
beautiful setting with pretty outcroppings of moriche palms around it. Here,
one can enjoy, in total comfort, activities typical of Venezuelan country life
such as milking cows, handling cattle, making cheeses, gathering fruit, etc.
Due to its location, it is also a convenient jumping off point for excursions
to the delta of the Orinoco River, through the Morichal Largo river, (about
1 hour away), or toward the Guácharo Cave in the northern part of the state.
Price includes lodging and meals, transfer between the airport and hacienda,
games and use of recreational areas. Excursions are separate.

mosquito repellent, hat or cap, camera, etc.

* Facilities 

Lodging in the house of a hacienda. 12 rooms with bar, meals, swimming
pool, games, and other extra services included. There are also 4 cabins and
5 rooms independent from the hacienda¹s house, with private bathroom and
water at room temperature.
