GUARICO  STATE CAMPS

Camp:Tigüigüe
* Location 

Finca La Iguana, on the road via Dos Caminos, 5 minutes from the village
of Tigüigüe.

* How to get there 

By land, road to Camatagua-Barbacoa-El Sombrero and then El
Sombrero-Dos Ca-minos to Tigüigüe.

* Characteristics 

The camp is located in a 700 ha. finca (ranch) which belongs to Martin and
Nohelia Oropeza, both teachers who live in El Sombrero. Together with
Olga Uribe, also a teacher, they developed the project. There is cattle
raising, as well as pasture growing and cachama raising in lagoons. The
idea is to make the children familiar with the customs of the inhabitants of
the Llanos (plains), his gentleness, legends and daily routine, all through
games, music and fun. Boys and girls between 8 and 13 years of age can
participate. Price includes lodging, meals, horse rides and all the activities
within the finca. Transportation is optional. Reservation required with
20Tlf. of the total cost. Summer season begins at the end of July and ends
in mid-September.

* Recomendations 

Luggage in back packs or bags, shorts, linen, sleeping bag or blankets,
T-shirts, pajama, pants, swim suit, flashlight, sports shoes, repellent, bag
for dirty clothes.

* Facilities 

2 big rooms, one for boys and one for girls. Gym-like bathrooms, likewise
separated.


Camp: Cantagallo
* Location 

On the road toward Cantagallo, passing San Juan de Los Morros.

* How to get there 

By land, 15 km. from San Juan de Los Morros, in the town of Cantagallo.

* Characteristics 

The little town of Cantagallo is full of traditions, customs, and folklore. It
is found in a beautiful valley bordered by hills of the lower branch of the
Coastal Range. In the hacienda, one can enjoy typical activities of the
countryside such as horseback riding, visits to swimming holes and
lagoons, folk music and festivals of the plains. The area is close to Los
Morros which are frequented by lovers of paragliding. At this club, there are
facilities and lodging available for them. From there you can visit the
thermal waters of San Juan, the Tiznao dam, the Calabozo dam, rivers,
lakes and mountains of incomparable beauty. And for the most daring there
are hiking in the Morros, ski-diving or maybe scuba-diving in the sunken
town of San José de Tiznao. Children under 10 receive 50Tlf. discount.
Price includes lodging, all meals, refreshments during excursions, welcome
gift and cocktail, horseback riding, excursions to pools and lagoons.

* Recomendations 

Clothing appropriate for the region and climate, sun screen, long-sleeved
shirt, hat or cap, insect repellent, binoculars, camera, etc.

* Facilities 

This is a club in the country offering 12 rooms with air conditioning and
private bathroom, large gardens with mini-zoo, and shop, area for bolas
criollas and horseback riding, stables and excursion routes, churuata-style
dining area, swimming pool for adults and children, line skating track,
Jacuzzi, ample space for parking.


Camp: Chinea Arriba
* Location 

In the central plains, 5 minutes from Calabozo.

* How to get there 

By land, following the highway to Calabozo. Then taking the road toward
Paso del Caballo, 8 km. to the south.

* Characteristics 

This is a typical ranch put into service primarily for tourism, full of
lagoons and woodlands, bordered by the Guárico and Orituco Rivers, at the
beginning of the central plains. 10 Km. north is the Calabozo dam, famous
for its fishing championships. Its closeness to the dam makes it an area rich
in flora, and with an impressive fauna that ranges from spectacled cayman,
anacondas, foxes, cunaguaro tigers, deer, howler monkey, etc., to a great
variety of birds, including the chenchena (hoatzin), and native fish. There
are excursions by boat and on horseback, observation of fauna and flora,
photo safari, and optional services such as sport fishing and boat rides
across the Guárico dam. Ideal for weekend family outings since it is not
very far from Caracas. Price includes lodging, complete meals, national
beverages, excursions, horseback riding. Reservations needed.

* Recomendations 

Clothing appropriate of the region and climate, sun screen, long-sleeved
shirt, hat or cap, binoculars, camera, etc.

* Facilities 

14 confortable double and quadruple rooms with air conditioning and
private bathroom. Full meals are served with typical menus from the
region, bar service, natural Jacuzzis of mineral water, etc.


Camp: Finca la Vaquera
* Location 

Población de Guardatinajas.

* How to get there 

By road via Calabozo, up to the embalse de Guárico toll plaza, then to
Guardatinajas.

* Characteristics 

800 ha extension. 3 nights*4 day plans with lodging, meals, beverages and
activities such as sailing in the Tiznao river, excursions in 4X4 vehicles,
observation of the flora, fauna and landscape from the plains on horseback.

* Recomendations 

Cool clothing, sneakers, hat or cap, bathing suit, sunblock, photographic
or video equipment, etc.

* Facilities 

4 rooms, only one with private bathroom, hot water and a*c, the rest of
them share the bathroom and have ceiling fans. Living room with bar and
dining room; pool and a court for playing bolas criollas.
