Camps by State

COJEDES  STATE CAMPS

Camp: Hato Piñero

* Location
In the region of the central plains, near the galleries of El Baúl.

* How to get there
By land it is 370 km. from Caracas. In the route toward San Carlos, then
via Tinaco, take the road toward El Baúl and follow the sign in the village
of Barbasco, some 22 km. more. By small plane, in a trip of 1 hour to the
private landing strip of the ranch.

* Characteristics
This flora and fauna refuge is especially conditioned for the enjoyment of
visitors. Offering a unique experience to get to know and enjoy the most
varied landscapes of the plains. It limits north with the El Baúl Shield,
whose rocks originated 400 million years ago. Here, the majesty of the
Vene-zuelan plains is lived to the fullest, characterized by flat, flood-prone
lands, with its hills, plains, deciduous forests, gallery forests, streams,
brooks, lagoons, and outcroppings of moriche palm all this surrounded by
the Portuguesa, Cojedes, Chirgua and El Pao Rivers. It's an ideal place for
fishing lovers, bird watchers and nature lovers. Scientists also have their
place in Piñero, counting, since the 80's, with a Biological Station that
supports Scientific Research and Environmental Education. For more than
45 years, the owners of Hato Piñero have combined the cattle keeping
activities with the preservation of the environment in its 80.000 ha., since
then, hunting has been forbidden and wild animals show a sense of security
not usually seen in most of the natural parks, allowing the observation of
different species from an extraordinarily close distance. It is clear proof that
man can coexist with nature in an atmosphere of respect and rational
utilisation of the resources. In a fauna inventory made in 1990, the
existence of 342 species of birds, 50 mammals, 42 reptiles 104 fish, and 14
amphibians was proved. And there is still more to discover! Everything
you want to see in flora and fauna is here. A priviledged place which is a
must for nature and adventure lovers. Price includes lodging, 3 meals, open
bar (national beverages), 2 excursions with a bilingual, specialized guide,
horseback-riding or boat rides, besides being able to enjoy the typical
ranching methods of the plains. Air and land transportation is offered.
Obligatory deposit of 20Tlf. when you make the reservations and the
remaining 80Tlf. 15 days prior to arrival. Reservations needed.

* Recomendations
Bring light clothing for the heat of the day and some protection from the
coolness at night. Have on hand non-aerosol protection against insects
which appear in certain hours of the afternoon, hat or cap, sun screen, 2
pairs of shoes, binoculars, photographic equipment.

* Facilities
A pretty colonial house constructed with materials such as sun-dried earth
and wood, with 8 double rooms, 1 triple, 1 quadruple, and 1 VIP. All with

you can enjoy yourself while your needs are satisfied by a warm and highly
