Dependencias federales Camps

 Camp: Boca de Tigre

* Location

Caño Mánamo, isla Tigre.

* How to get there

By air or land to Maturín. From there by road to San José de Bujas and then in motor-powered dug-out canoe to Tigre Island. Or by air to Tucupita, then navigating in dug-out canoe on Caño Mánamo.

* Characteristics

The mouth of the Orinoco River constitutes one of the largest deltas in the world, with a surface area of 40,240 km2. The territory is covered by a dense impenetrable jungle, with rich fauna, unique in the world. This territory is inhabited by the Warao Indians, who continue maintaining their customs without integrating themselves with the rest of the country or of the world. They live in shelters constructed on stilts over water, known as palafitos, and live from fishing and hunting, gathering of fruit, and works of handicrafts. The camp is reached by crossing a swampy area, characterized by navigable caños which lead to picturesque indigenous settlements constructed along the banks of the Orinoco River. Water is the only means of transportation in this area. The camp organizes excursions by boat or walking through the jungle, fishing for piranha, observation of flora and fauna, etc. Parrots abound here and nearby is a roost where more than 20,000 birds arrive every evening around sunset, according to figures of Profauna. The region is humid, hot, and in the afternoon, the mosquitos arrive, for which reason you have to protect yourself adequately.

* Recomendations

Identification documents, sneakers, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, hat or cap, lightweight rain poncho, towel, mosquito repellent, sun screen, bathing suit, flashlight, sunglasses, camera, etc. Put your baggage, which should not exceed 5 kilos, in a waterproof bag. Don't enter the jungle alone or swim in the caños. Likewise, do not buy animals or plants, only handicrafts directly from the Indians.

* Facilities

22 comfortable double rooms with private bathroom. Dining room where typical Venezuelan cuisine is offered, breakfasts and dinners. Dock, electric generator, landing strip for helicopters. In the past, the installations were a petroleum camp.

* Price

$$
